Lancers vs Islanders 2-22-08
On a mud puddle filled field at Burbank High School , the Lancers knew that the game was going to be a battle. From the kickoff, both teams fought to keep their footing and move the ball without losing control. The Lancers held off an early push by the Islanders with a couple goal line stands. Working their way into the Islanders half, the Lancers used a penalty and some nice ball handling to get down to the goal line. On the ensuing lineout, the Lancers were given a free kick and Caleb Short took a quick tap and ran 10 yard and drove several Islanders over the line to score the games first try. With the conversion kick, the Lancers held a 7-0 lead into half. In the second half, the Lancers couldn’t get anything going and possession of the ball went back and forth. With time running out, the Islanders used physical play from their forwards to get back into the game. With about 15 minutes left and light diminishing, the Islanders worked down the Lancer sideline and drove in for their first try, bringing the score to 7-5. Mistakes and missed tackles would cost the Lancers as the Islanders came right back and scored again. Now, the Islanders held a 10-7 lead. In trying to get back into the game, the Lancers kicked off out of bounds and gave the Islanders the ball at midfield with a scrum. The Islanders would capitalize once again on some nice back moves and more Lancer mistakes extending their lead and the final score to 15-7. Some excellent play was given from Danny Koi, Tyler Farnsworth, Kiso Afoa and Forrest Palmquist.
